‘Violet De Bordeaux’ Fig (Ficus carica ‘Violet De Bordeaux’) – 3 gallon 12″

If you’re looking for a fig tree that delivers both elegance and exceptional taste, Ficus carica ‘Violet de Bordeaux’ is your perfect pick. This French heirloom variety is famous for producing small-to-medium, elongated figs with violet-black skin and luscious strawberry-red flesh. The flavor is rich and sweet—often described as one of the finest among all fig varieties.

Unlike many figs, ‘Violet de Bordeaux’ is naturally compact, making it perfect for patios, courtyards, or small gardens. It’s also highly ornamental: the tree bears deeply lobed, narrow leaves that bring texture and elegance to the landscape. In spring and early summer, an early “breba” crop offers a first taste, followed by a main crop that ripens in early to mid-autumn.

This fig thrives in full sun with well-drained soil, reaching its best fruiting potential with six or more hours of sunlight daily. In colder climates (Zones 6 and below), it should be grown in a container and moved to a protected location for winter. Easy to grow, low-maintenance, and incredibly rewarding, ‘Violet de Bordeaux’ offers home gardeners both beauty and bounty.
